Ecologist from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. PhD in Zoology from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Full time professor and researcher from the Biology Department of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. His research is focused on evolutionary biogeography of Neotropical freshwater fishes found in the Northwestern region of South America. His research combines knowledge from different disciplines sus as sitematics, ecology, molecular biology, geology,, and geography to identify the historical and ecological factors which have outlined the processes of diversification of the Neotropical ichthyofauna. At the phylogenetic level, he works with the Gymnotiformes group.

He is the co-director of the Partners for Conservation in the Colombian Amazon program.
